Job Description

Overview Reporting to the Mill Supervisor, the Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for supervising warehouse personnel, ensuring the maintenance of inventory, preparation and bagging of orders, the timely rotation of product to minimize cost and wastage, the general stock levels, and housekeeping standards in the warehouse. Responsibilities Warehouse Support and Supervision • Provide supervision, guidance, and training to new, or junior colleagues in the warehouse operations, housekeeping duties and health and safety procedures. • Ensure that warehouse staff are working efficiently by ensuring the availability of product and equipment. • Respond and resolve warehouse and control room questions and concerns on a timely basis. • Scheduling of staff for stat holidays, weekends, or sick days as necessary. Warehouse Inventory • Work collaboratively with the Mill Supervisor, control room, and administrative staff to ensure a working inventory of feed mill products and efficient operation of the warehouse. • Receive all bagged shipments. • To cover freight receiving of bulk shipments when needed. • Preparation of customer deliveries on pallets. • Complete physical counts of warehouse products. • Anticipate demand and maintain an adequate supply of bagged feed, requesting production as required. • Refilling tote bins and micro bins when necessary. • Rotate stock and date stamp all feed produced in the feed mill. • Maintain bagging supplies, including proper tags, disposing of those no longer used • Report all dead stock to the Mill Administrative Assistant to arrange for recycling, return or disposal, as required. • Ensure that the “bagging lot” is completed to indicate the number of bags held back following a medicated feed. • Verify the quality, labeling, expiry dates and condition of all received and shipped inventory, notifying the Mill Administrative Assistant of any damaged or otherwise unsuitable merchandise. • Store quality sample control bags, retaining the required supply. Compliance • Inspect incoming ingredients to ensure quality meets the minimum standard. • Receive liquid ingredients according to established standard operating procedures. • Inspect all transportation vehicles for contaminants prior to loading and unloading. • Verify the delivery documents, noting any discrepancies. • Ensure the accurate labeling and correct storage of all product to prevent cross contamination and wastage. • Undertake daily inspection of forklifts and completion of the inspection logbook prior to use, documenting and reporting any concerns. • Report any bagging equipment malfunctions or required repairs, working with the Maintenance Supervisor to schedule and manage equipment down-time. • Sample bagged product and submit quality samples for inspection when required for compliance with our Feed Assure Program. Maintenance • Ensure that the warehouse is maintained to the highest standards of operation. • Complete all Housekeeping duties as indicated in our Sanitation Program. Health and Safety • Coordinate and act as primary contact for matters relating to Health and Safety, including liaison with contractors, ensuring the investigation of incidents, accidents and injuries, preparation of reports and maintenance of records. Review and action investigation reports. Essential Position Requirements • Relevant post-secondary education or applicable experience. • Previous experience and proven success in supervising the work of others. • Computer proficiency. • Must be highly organised with the ability to effectively multi-task and complete projects with short deadlines. • Communicates clearly orally and in writing, and builds relationships with all levels of the organization, with drivers, customers, and colleagues across the company. • Ability to lift medium to heavy loads (up to 40kgs). • Provide exceptional and courteous customer service. • Ability and willingness to work in dusty, warm, cold environment. • Must demonstrate a high degree of safety consciousness. • Demonstrated leadership and motivation qualities. • Bilingualism. • Must be available to work long weekends and extra hours when needed.
